Ideas that didn’t make the cut.
I’ve learned that, in this industry, you need to be able to think big. However, sometimes, you think too big. Whether the idea isn’t right for the project, budget, or client, that doesn’t mean those ideas aren’t great. Here’s a selection of big ideas that sit in a folder on my desktop, waiting for their time to shine.
This list is always growing, so be sure to check in from time to time to see what thinking I’ve been up to.
Kia Terrarium
It's no surprise that automotive brands are producing more and more electric vehicles. To promote Kia’s flagship EV, we were tasked with coming up with ideas that were all about future, sustainability, and longevity.
The Kia Terrarium is an idea that turns an EV6, Kia’s flagship EV, into a life-sized terrarium.
These terrarium-vehicles would be placed in busy areas such as university campuses, shopping centres, and busy intersections. The terrarium itself would be able to grow and live on its own, creating a sustainable environment by its own - like how the EV6 and Kia are rooted in sustainability.
As the terrarium grows over time, we see how a self-sufficient ecosystem can develop and change, much like how Kia has changed their branding in the past, and how they are actively changing to product a lineup of all-electric vehicles.
Two years ago, Kia rebranded with a new logo, new messaging, and a new tagline: “Movement that inspires.”
A lot of our work at Kia has to do with movement, and how it inspires people. But, what if people moving inspired us? What if we can inspire people to move, instead of them being inspired by movement itself?
These interactive mechanical mirrors (inspired by the artwork of Daniel Rozin) work by taking footage of a subject, and tilting square panels upwards or downwards, either hitting a light source or casting a shadow.
Inspired by the “Movement that inspires” tagline, we’re able to mix art and technology to create a one-of-a-kind billboard that’s sure to grab attention.
